Install PhoneTools

Overview

This guide outlines the steps to install the PhoneTools managed package from AgentExchange (formerly AppExchange).

Before installing PhoneTools, ensure that you are a Salesforce Administrator and that your Salesforce instance supports AgentExchange apps.

Step 1: Access the AgentExchange Listing

  1. Navigate to the PhoneTools AgentExchange listing.

Step 2: Get It Now

  1. On the AgentExchange page, select Get It Now to install PhoneTools into a production environment. Alternatively, if you are installing into a Sandbox, select Try It.
  2. Log in with your Salesforce credentials if prompted.

Step 3: Choose the Installation Environment

  1. Select the appropriate environment, then select Install.
  2. Review the Terms and Conditions provided by ProvenWorks.
  3. Tick the box to agree, then select Confirm and Install.

Step 4: Grant User Permissions

  1. During installation, you'll be prompted to choose the default allocation of permissions:
    • Install for Admins Only: Recommended for initial setup.
    • Install for All Users: Automatically grants access to all users.
    • Install for Specific Profiles: Manually assign permissions to users assigned to specified Profiles.
  2. Choose the appropriate option, then select Next.

Note: Whichever option you choose here, PhoneTools still needs its Permission Sets assigning before anyone can use it, and the users who screen records need edit access to three fields that the packaged Permission Set deliberately leaves read-only. See Permission Set Assignments.

Step 5: Complete the Installation

  1. Salesforce will process the installation. This may take a few minutes.
  2. Select Done to finish the process.
  3. Once the installation has been successful, you'll receive an email.

What Installation Sets up for You

Installation is not only metadata. PhoneTools seeds the phone field configuration for Account, Contact and Lead, selects both registers, and sets Email address for screening alerts to the address of the user who installed the package. Nothing is screened yet, because every entry starts with Enable Screening switched off.

Change the alert address to a monitored mailbox before you go any further. See Choose Which Services to Screen Against. What the package gives you on each object is covered in How Screening Works.

Note: Do not delete or edit the AzureDataservice Remote Site Setting. It is how PhoneTools reaches the screening service, and every screen fails without it.
