Choose Which Services to Screen Against¶
Once your phone fields are configured, tell PhoneTools which registers to screen them against. PhoneTools supports the Telephone Preference Service (TPS), which covers numbers registered by individuals, and the Corporate Telephone Preference Service (CTPS), which covers numbers registered by businesses. You can screen against either or both.
Both registers are selected by default.
Note: Global Screening Settings is only shown to a user whose profile has the Modify All Data permission. If you cannot see the section described below, see Permission Set Assignments.
Choosing Your Registers¶
- Open the App Launcher and select PhoneTools.
- Go to the PhoneTools Administration tab.
- Go to the Screening tab and find the Global Screening Settings section.
- Under Do-not-call databases to screen phone numbers against, tick UK-TPS, UK-CTPS, or both.
- Enter an address in Email address for screening alerts. Use a mailbox that is monitored, such as a shared admin address rather than one person's inbox.
- Select Save All.
Why the Alert Address Matters¶
PhoneTools uses this address to tell you when screening runs into a problem, most commonly when your credits have run out. It is set at installation to the email address of the user who installed the package, so it is worth changing to a monitored address.
The address is also required before scheduled screening can be turned on. If it is empty, PhoneTools refuses to enable the scheduled job and reports:
In order to report credits exhaustion and other problems, PhoneTools needs a valid alerts email address to be configured before screening can be enabled.
Note: The setting is stored as pw_pss__AlertEmail__c on the Phone
Screen Settings Custom Setting, and is validated when you save. If the address
is rejected, PhoneTools reports "Specified invalid alerts email address." and
leaves your register selection and alert address as they were. Any change you
made to the phone field configuration on the Configuration tab is saved
before the address is validated, so that part of the save does stand.
Good to Know¶
- Credits are held separately for each register, and are reported separately in the Screening Credits section. Selecting only the register you need keeps your usage down.
- Your selection applies to the whole org. It is not set per object or per phone field.
- The selection also controls what your users see: the PhoneTools Lightning Component only reports results for the registers you have selected here.
- Records are only screened at all if the phone field is configured and enabled. See Configure a Field to Screen.
